Our Grading System



Children’s Grades


A simplified grading syllabus exists to encourage young children to progress with their karate training.

Kyu Grades


Based on the traditional ‘Shotokan’ Kyu grade system of 9 Kyu grades from beginner to Shodan (1st Dan black belt).

Cadet Black Belts


Junior or Cadet Black Belt grades may be awarded to students under the age of 16 using the association Cadet Grading Syllabus.

Dan Grades


Dan Grades are only awarded to students over the age of 16 in accordance with syllabus requirements.
