Personal Profile

Yvonne has practiced karate for over 45 years. In October 2022 she travelled to Portugal where she passed 6th Dan in front of a panel of KSKA Shihankai members.

Yvonne is an ESA Grading examiner and a member of the English Shotokan Academy Technical Committee.

She began training in 1975 at Huyton Karate Club (KUGB) and moved on to train at Liverpool Red Triangle where she graded to 1st Dan black belt.

In 1982 she began training with Sensei Steve Cattle at Kirkdale Karate club and graded to 2nd and 3rd Dan grades prior to leaving the KUGB in 1990 to follow Steve and the way of Sensei Kase.

In May 1984(aged 16) she was personally invited by Sensei Enoeda to join the KUGB national squad.

  • Passed 1st Dan, June 1982 (Japan Karate Association).
  • Passed 2nd Dan, May 1984 (Japan Karate Association).
  • Passed 3rd Dan, May 1989 (Japan Karate Association).
  • Passed 4th Dan, December 1993 (English Shotokan Academy).
  • Passed 5th Dan, October 2013 under a panel of KSKA Shihankai members.
  • Passed 6th Dan October 2022 under a panel of KSKA Shihankai members.

Tournament Successes

Yvonne has been placed in more than 100 competitions and has won numerous National championships. She has disposed of her trophies so has provided the following from magazine/press cuttings.

  • Karate Union of Great Britain (B) National Squad member 1984 – 1988 (left the squad to start a family).
  • 1981 Shotokan Cup girls kata 2nd place.
  • 1981 British all Styles Karate Association Midland open ladies kata 2nd place.
  • 1984 European championships ladies kumite 3rd place.
  • 1984 KUGB Shotokan cup ladies kumite 2nd and junior ladies kata 3rd.
  • 1984 North midlands open ladies kumite champion.
  • 1984 KUGB National championship ladies kumite 3rd and ladies team kata 4th place.
  • 1985 Represented KUGB at the English Karate Board (EKB) National championships ladies kumite 2nd place.
  • 1985 Represented KUGB at European championships, under 21 Kata and senior kumite.
  • 1985 English Karate Association National ladies kumite champion.
  • 1986 Represented KUGB at the EKB National championships ladies kumite 3rd place.
  • 1986 All styles National ladies kumite champion of champions.
  • 1986 Northern open championships ladies kumite champion.
  • 1986 Northern open championships ladies team kata 3rd place.
